Should La. A.G. hire trial attornies to sue businesses?!?! PDF Print E-mail

Senate Bill 731 would let the attorney general's office to hire trial lawyers to sue businesses on the state's behalf. The lawyers wouldn't get paid unless they win.

Supporters argue the bill would help the attorney general's effort to sue BP over damage from last month's catastrophic oil spill, but Louisiana's attorney general isn't asking for this.

This is coming directly from the trial lawyers themselves, who stand to make millions of dollars from a settlement or jury verdict.

What's worse is that the bill isn't limited to the BP case. It would let the attorney general's office hire private lawyers on a contingency basis in almost any case.

Small business owners cannot afford for Louisiana to unleash hordes of trial lawyers against private business in hopes of scoring a lucrative settlement or jury award!

Contact your Lousiana legislator today and say no to SB 731.
